About Audio Books

I remember as a child visiting my uncle’s house where he had this huge reel-to-reel tape recorder. He’d record interviews during family get togethers and play them back years later so we could all get a good chuckle.

Another thing he did, was record special television programs, especially plays. Of course it was only the audio portion, but my cousins and I would be entertained for hours listening to an audio of Peter and the Wolf, and Peter Pan.

Little did I know, this many years later, there’d be a huge market for audios of books, plays, poetry, and just about anything other audible recordings. In fact, just about anything you could read, watch, or think can be found in one form or another on audio.

I’m sure my uncle didn’t start the movement. It probably began when companies like Amway and Tupperware recorded their rallies so their sales force could listen to them on cassette. But in any case, audio books are here to stay.

Now a days you can get audio books in all formats. Cassette tapes, though once the most popular form, have now been surpassed by CD and MP3 versions. Many people store their audio books directly on their computer so they can have them readily available and able to burn or transfer to other mediums.

This site is all about audio books and how they’re changing the way people learn and how they’re entertained.
