Audio books downloads are a great way to get your youngsters involved in some of the classics you grew up with. Students especially find them useful because they can really get the gist of book assignments they have to read for class by actually hearing the emotion behind the words.

With Christmas right around the corner, wouldn’t it be great to gather the family together in front of the fireplace, switch on your iPod console, or hit the play button on your computer’s media player, and get in the “spirit” with Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol? Or perhaps you’d prefer A Child’s Christmas in Wales for your family.

I remember watching Walt Disney every Sunday night with my parents and one of my favorites was Treasure Island. I think its what got me started appreciating the classic literature, which in turn helped me in school as well as with my casual reading choices.

Eventually I even got into Shakespeare, so when I was assigned to do a book report on The Merchant of Venice, I aced it. MacBeth and Romeo and Juliet were a snap too.

This was all because my parents had the insight to expose me to these classics so I could “see” what an adventure really was. Of course, apart from Disney and Hallmark, I had to actually read the books to appreciate them. Now a days children can get the audio versions and really get the intrigue and suspense behind the stories.

All the favorites we grew up with are available today. If Greek legend is your thing, there’s The Illiad and The Odyssey. If you’re into Americana, you have Huck Finn and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.

Imagine turning your children on to Alice in Wonderland or Through the Looking Glass? Having these great classics in audio books downloaded and readily available to them will have them asking for more and more, and you’ll be filling their minds with some of the greatest stories ever told!
